Rain, Decorating, Mattresses, and Other Rants! -First World Problems

On the Road with the Jensens

(I actually wrote this well over a week ago and struggled with posting it because it felt so negative, but here ya go anyways! Just know that; my mood has improved, much progress has been made on our land, my finishes list for the house is almost complete, I have an appointment with my kitchen/bath designer next week, and I am focusing on the positive!)

Holy freaking rain, Batman!! Go AWAY! I am officially losing my shit about the constant rain in Missouri. A few nice days here and there does not get a house built. Sure, the creek that runs through our property is running along nicely now, but dang… I can’t even really check it out because they haven’t gotten far enough in clearing it out yet! You guys mark my word, next year there will be a damn drought because the rain gods hate me. Really, what did I ever do to the weather to make it treat me so badly. I show my appreciation for beautiful days by enjoying them to the fullest, I garden, plant trees, and love on mother nature. It can’t be karma, right?! UGH!

Start of our land being cleared

So… positive spin… of course, besides the fact that we will get to live in our fantasticly small travel trailer longer than we’d hoped for (BAHAHAHA), is that I will have longer to come to a decision on the one hundred thousand choices I have to make about the finishes in our new home. Oh my goodness, I suck at this! I’ve had people tell me over and over how much fun they had designing their home. Personally, I love the idea of it but was and am overwhelmed by the actual process. Yes, in the end, it will be exactly how I want it which would be better IF I knew what I wanted! OMG!! I go to the store and they are out of my normal cereal, I spend an extra 20 minutes on the cereal isle reading boxes and weighing the pros and cons of every possible choice, AND leave without cereal! Haha kids, yall are eating oatmeal because mommy is a freakin’ loon who couldn’t commit to a different cereal.

Now I have to choose fifty hundred million fixtures and live with my choices! Pray for me! It really is daunting though, I mean it. I’m just not great at decorating is the main thing. Our previous house had areas that I was proud of, but was mostly scarcely decorated with hand me down decor from my mom and garage sale finds. The only fixture we’d changed in our 10 years living there was our kitchen faucet, because it broke, and I loved that new faucet so much! LMAO! Now I need to know if I like traditional, modern, farmhouse, farmhouse modern, etc… yikes. Watch a video, get a book (maybe Design for Dummies), go on Pinterest. All great ideas, but who has time for that shit. Hire an interior decorator! Yes, that is a great idea! Oh, wait, yall know I’m living in my travel trailer, right? I’m clearly either too frugal to hire a decorator.

What are the rest of the “first world” problems that I’m focusing on this week? Our mattress in this trailer was clearly made to only be slept on occasionally. At almost 2 months in, it is becoming unbearable. Purchasing a new one is next on my to-do list. Gas prices are climbing at an alarmingly fast rate and that just sucks when you average about 7mpg and want travel across country. I might be rethinking my idea of a July Colorado trip and going somewhere a little closer.

RANT OVER!

Hoping for a more positive tomorrow!!

XOXO,

Jera
