Hi, I’m Jera, one of the adults here! My husband, David and I decided a few months back to sell our house in Burleson, TX and move to be near family in Missouri! Yikes!

We started cleaning and packing and fixing all of the little things prior to putting our house on the market back in January and listed it at the first of March. Less than 30 days later we were to be homeless. You see, we have a destination in mind but decided that what we really want is to design a custom home and build on some land. This is fantastic and we are very excited, but…. HOMELESS! Well, technically we will continue to reside in Burleson still so that the 2 kids can finish out the school year there. We’re lucky to have good friends who are opening their home to us in between our “vacations” AND virtual school!

So what do we do? We put most of our belongings in storage and packed up our travel trailer with what we think can get us by for about 4 months until our house is move in ready, in late July! 2 adults, 2 kids, 2 dogs, and 3 hermit crabs along with many houseplants I couldn’t bear to part with.

Follow us to maybe learn some tips for hitting the road for an extended period of time, learn about the cool places we go, and laugh at our experiences along the way! (because I am sure there are going to be many comical ones)

GET TO KNOW US

2 adults-

It’s me… I am one of the adults! Jera, born and raised in Texas! I’m an insurance broker, photographer, mom, wife, foodie, traveler, daughter, and sister. I really enjoy traveling and exploring new places, the outdoors, gardening, and finding great breweries.

David, my husband, is the other adult here! David also works in insurance, remotely. Which is fantastic because neither of us is tied down to an office. Hence, our ability to travel for the next 4 months! David manages all the dirty work around here, not much different from at home. LOL! Seriously though, he’s the best travel companion we are super lucky to have him. I’m glad I talked him into this craziness!

2 kids-

Preston is 14 and is completely content with our journey as long as he has a place to plug in his PC with internet!! He’s a great kid and does well with virtual schooling, he prefers it. He’s not as outdoorsy as the rest of us, but would never turn down a nerf gun war, ice skating, skiing, or good swimming hole.

Marshall is 11! He’s a bit more adventurous than his brother and really enjoys doing anything as a family, except eating spaghetti and pot roast! He is ridiculously serious about breakfast and feels that only “breakfast foods” should be eaten in the morning. While he does well with virtual leaning, it’s not his jam. He would much rather be socializing with his friends in person.

2 dogs-

Smokey is a retriver mix but honestly looks to have some German Shepard in him. We adopted him from the animal shelter in August of 2014 and believe that he is almost 7 years old. He’s mostly well behaved, likes long walks on the beach, sniffing butts, peeing on everything, and napping.

Maverick is Marshall’s 2.5 year old Jack Russel Terrier! He’s a hot mess half of the time. He hasn’t traveled with us nearly as much as Smokey, but seems to be getting the hang of it quickly. He likes doing anything Smokey does, going on Jeep rides, laying next to Smokey, chasing flies, and napping.

3 hermit crabs-

2 of these guys joined our family after a beach trip August of 2020. The other came along shortly afterwards when a friend re-homed him to us. We’ve downsized their habitat from a 20 gallon fish tank to a 10 gallon to make it easier to bring along.

Turbo is from a Panama City FL souvineer shop and is the most outgoing of the group. He doesn’t shy away easily and can be found climbing around on the branches and hut in the habitat on most days.

Camo is also from the souvineer shop. He is the least social of the crabs and can mainly be found hiding out in the hut during the day time.

Mia came from our x-neighbors. She (that’s what it identifies as) is constanly changing between two different shells. She also enjoys climbing around but can be a little shy when she feels that we are watching her too closely.

Thanks for reading!

XOXO,

Jera
